We've done it again!
Posted on Jan 25th, 2008 by bill

Just letting everyone know that we have again taken the lead &huge strides to cater to our customers and do the best we can to ensure everyone has a great time here. Being avid players ourselves, we have recognized the need to make it possible for the younger players who may not be physically strong enough to use the markers effectively. We've opted to put even more towards our line of nice rentals to correct this issue while making it even more comfortable for the adults. We could have sat on this issue like the average field, instead we took it head on and invested in gun modifications that allow them to use the same marker as everyone else, but still make it easy to handle and shoot. It's just another "first" in our efforts to provide top flight service with out charging for an upgrade. WE AREN'T TRYING TO DIP YOUR POCKETS! see? This "extra" is included in the rental package. No hype, no clever wording, just straight shooting. We don't charge extra to have a quality marker to play with. That's our commitment to our guests and that will never change! So,... if your tired of getting unmaintained low end rental equipment and paying extra for weak upgrades, bring your younger players to a field that has equipment designed to give them an enjoyable experience too. After all, they are the future of this sport!

Please be patient....

My review of Sanitarium Sportz South (indoor) in Anderson pix included

I finally got a chance to visit Sanitarium Sportz South and I must say I was impressed. I was expecting some hole in the wall rip off of Dark Armies but it's nothing like that. It's very well lit and safe. The playing field is 80 by 60 feet and has a concrete floor. I was expecting a super slick floor with tons of paint on it. It was nothing of the kind. The floor was clean and had a good "sticktion" factor. I never felt that my footing was slipping or not solid. There was a light coating of an absorbant that literally sucked up what broken paint was on it. The absorbant didn't stick to or gum up my shoes even when I purposely crushed a ball. Pretty much all the play is stand up style. The only place I could see someone diving or sliding would be into the snake. A good set of knee and elbow pads would take care of that. One of the advantages of the floor is that the bunkers are more easily moved and the field can be adjusted as needed. They are pretty securely in place and normal play shouldn't move them. Between games it would be easy to reset the field to a different style. If the field is a success they plan on some turf or carpet for next season. For right now it will remain concrete.
With the 80 by 60 size I don't think it would be good for a true 5 on 5 practice. However! I can see it as a "game closing" style practice field. Think of it as practice for 3 on 2 or 2 on 1 type game enders. Set the clock for 2 minutes, make it 3 on 2 and practice closing the game. Many games are not max'd in the last minute due to the teams not being able to close the game and hang the flag.
Currently it is FPO and the field speed is 260 fps. Entry is $15 with your own gear and 4500 fills are included. CO2 fills are not available but HPA tanks are available to rent with fills included. Paint is $52 a case or $15 a bag. If you need to rent gear it's an extra $10 and they rent BT4's using HPA. Open play is on Friday and Saturday nights from 6 to 10 PM, standard waiver rules apply. Closed games are Saturday and Sunday. Private team practices are available, contact Bill for more information and rates.
Private games are also available. The minimum is 8 players, cost is $40 a person and includes 500 rounds of paint per player.
The owners admit it's a work in progress. They are going to expand the staging area and game viewing area. They also have plans to open a 2nd floor viewing area. If you ever played the original Blast Factory you know how cool the 2nd floor was to watch from.
I also feel the need to comment on the owners. These guys have been playing for a good while and have played many of the "old school" events I've played in the past. They can relate to how expensive paintball was 15 plus years ago and how much it costs now. Their goal isn't to make money, it's to have fun. Their want for fun is spilling over to the public which is a good thing.
I'll recommend this field to my store customers and will put a link on my store website.
For more information go to www.sanitariumsportz.comor call Bill at 765-808-4699. If you get his voice mail feel free to send him a text. With his day job he can't always answer the phone but can return text messages.
Overall I think it's a great place and hope to see it thrive.

Things to know
Posted on Dec 06th, 2007 by bill

Please keep these things in mind when coming to rock out at the SANITARIUM!

  1. This is no place for the soft player! it is raw, intense, and in your face. Players looking for that spot to really work on polishing your crunch time game you have found it.
  2. Come with a good positive attitude with safety and sportsmanship as a priority. We encourage intensity and competitiveness on the floor. The thing to always remember however, is that it is still just a game. DO NOT WIPE!!!!
  3. No matter how good you are,.... you will get shot here! wear a beanie, hat, etc. to protect the dome if you feel you need it. guys, protect the goods. Ladies the same goes for you.
  4. Our facility isn't posh or lavish. I wouldn't try to tell you otherwise, but it is fun and will always play well. it is very similar to the first indoor facility (Paintball Warfare) in this area, where many a great player was born and the love of the game was driven deep into the hearts of everyone that walked through the doors. We believe in the family atmosphere that should surround this sport. The Sanitarium will lend itself to the true player. Veterans are expected to help the newbies and the newbies should respect the knowledge of the more experienced players. If everyone works together there will be more people attracted to our sport.
  5. We will be giving away really nice raffle prizes all winter. at the first of the week we will announce our season package deals to help everyone actually play for cheaper. not just some word play to make it sound cheaper. We will also be doing a lot with the mailing list this winter so get signed up for all the deals that we'll be offering only to newsletter members.
  6. We rent  markers, field paint only, and no CO2 this winter. we do rent HPA tanks for a very reasonable price. our rentals are always clean and seviced by our staff, ALWAYS!!!! We use really nice EMPIRE CYLUS goggles and BT-4 combat markers. Absolutely NO PLUGS!!! barrel socks are the only accepted barrel blocking device. There is absolutely no ramping or bursts. semi auto only.

We will try to get in some small tournaments this winter. play the indoor field until late march. then it's back outside to the new and improved Sanitarium North complex.

Lots to do, Lots of change, Lots of friends, Tons of fun!!!!!!

Indoor hours
Posted on Dec 06th, 2007 by bill

OK everybody here it is. This Friday we will begin open play at 6pm and play til 10pm. doors will open at 5pm. the door to enter is on the south side of the building located at 2440 S Madison Ave. Anderson IN 46016 (for those of you mapping). Saturday night will be the same hours. these times may change as we will try our best to figure out the better times to operate to accomodate as many of the masses as we can. !!!! IMPORTANT !!!! Only the first 30 paid players will be able to rock out at the first games. anyone else will be more than welcome to stay and watch; there is plenty of area. To ensure that you have a place saved for any of our games you can call ahead and reserve with a credit card. if interested, you can call 1.765.643.0549 and for only $15 be guaranteed a spot for that game. However if you are not present at least 30min before game time we reserve the right to forfeit your spot to the next player with NO REFUND issued. We want to cater to you to the best of our ability, so limited players each night with lots of play = big value. there will be more information coming soon, but for now these are the basics. hope to see you there!

!!!!Thanks for the support!!!!

Just wanted everyone to know that the north facility (museum) is officially closed for the winter. We want to take a minute and give a very big thanks to everyone who supported us and passed along the word about our field. This was a busy and strenuous season for us. we had a lot of work to do and not much time to do it in. next spring will really bring the wow factor for you. We had local competition finally step up and start to make improvements to their facility after far too long, so we were actually responsible for bettering two facilities by doing things the honest way. I hope you all will continue to support our efforts this winter and come out to see us at the Sanitarium South. Above all else, support your local stores and fields before the internet companies when possible. Locals are the ones that keep the sport going! Without them the our sport will truly begin to struggle. Stay tuned to the site for more info on the new indoor facility. hope you all had fun this season regardless of where, and who, you played.
